I offer traditional computer courses which gather many students into a classroom and provide them with standardised training. They are "one-size-fits-all" solutions for those who desire to improve their computer skills.
However, there are people who need a more "custom-tailored" solution. Some have needs more advanced than those addressed by a standard beginner level course. Some just want to learn how to perform very specific tasks, and just those. Some learn better if assisted individually, step by step, and some prefer asking questions, rather than following a scripted lesson. Some require advanced courses in a particular technology to grow professionally.
In order to address these needs, microcourses were born: small lessons, usually one hour long, at the time the student finds most convenient.
Small lessons, held one to one or in very small groups. Lessons in which it is not the teacher who picks the material: they are tailor-built on the user's requests. The whole course could even consist of a single lesson on a specific topic (how do I attach photos to an email? I have heard that I can make free, worldwide PC-to-PC calls: how do I do that?). All that you need, and only what you need. Right when you need it.
